Code of Ethics
The ethical standards and principles that guide our members, breeders, and owners in their commitment to the Toy Fox Terrier.
The National Toy Fox Terrier Association (NTFTA) is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Toy Fox Terrier. Our members agree to abide by this Code of Ethics to ensure the highest standards of health, welfare, and sportsmanship for the breed.
I. Responsibilities of Breeders
Breeders shall be dedicated to the improvement of the Toy Fox Terrier breed. They shall breed only UKC-registered dogs that are in good health and possess the characteristics defined in the official breed standard.
Breeders shall conduct health screenings on their breeding stock as recommended by the NTFTA and the UKC to minimize the occurrence of hereditary defects.
Breeders shall provide proper care, nutrition, and socialization for all dogs in their care.
Breeders shall be honest and ethical in all dealings with puppy buyers and other breeders, providing accurate records and pedigree information.
II. Responsibilities of Owners
Owners shall provide a safe, loving, and permanent home for their Toy Fox Terriers.
Owners shall provide regular veterinary care, proper nutrition, and adequate exercise and mental stimulation.
Owners shall ensure their dogs are properly identified and supervised to prevent them from becoming a nuisance or danger to the community.
Owners are encouraged to participate in NTFTA events and support the association's mission.
III. Sportsmanship
Members shall conduct themselves in a manner that reflects credit upon the NTFTA and the Toy Fox Terrier breed.
Members shall show respect and courtesy toward judges, fellow exhibitors, and show officials at all times.
Members shall avoid making false or malicious statements about other members, their dogs, or their breeding programs.
IV. Health and Welfare
The well-being of the dog shall always be the primary consideration in breeding, showing, and ownership.
Members shall support rescue efforts and assist in the placement of Toy Fox Terriers in need when possible.
Members shall not sell dogs to commercial wholesalers, pet stores, or any other outlet that does not provide direct contact between the breeder and the buyer.
By joining the NTFTA, members pledge to uphold these standards and work together for the betterment of the Toy Fox Terrier breed.
